Chillingham is famous for its moaning and whimpering Blue Boy. His bones and some scraps of blue clothing were discovered behind a wall where his cries have been heard, suggesting he may have been immured there. In the meantime, the rustle of a dress on the turret stairs heralds the passage of the restless spirit of Lady Mary Berkeley as she searches in vain for her husband (he ran off with her sister). Then of course there’s the white lady in the pantry, the voices in the chapel etc.

Ghost sighting Nothumberland Winters Gibbet

The last man to be Gibbetted in England was William Winter. A facsimile of his head hangs from a Gibbet on a wild moorland road above the village of Elsdon. Winter was a Gypsy and murderer. He was executed in 1791 and his ghost can be seen around this area.

Dunstanburgh Castle was built in the 14th century by Thomas, Earl of Lancaster. He led a rebellion against the King and was executed in 1322. It took eleven strokes to sever his head. His Ghost is said to Wander the Castle.
